Hi, I’m Alyssa. I am originally from a small town in Central Texas, and it still holds a dear place in my heart. I moved to Abilene, Texas in 2008 to study Theology, which is also where I met my husband Logan, a Theology and Philosophy major.

My experiences at the Logsdon School of Theology completely transformed the way I think about God, humanity, and the relationship between them. I like talking theology, asking questions and looking at things with a different perspective. At this point in my life, I’m interested in comparative religions, religion and literature, hermeneutics, language, religious myth, narrative theology and historical theology, among many other things. Hopefully I’ll make it to graduate school one of these days, but until then, I’m busy working a full-time job as an admissions consultant for transfer students at my alma mater.

This is my first blogging attempt, and my plan is to write about what is going on in my life. That could occasionally mean tales concerning my marriage, theological musings, new recipes, mundane happenings or travel experiences, but it is all to be shared and enjoyed with you.

I love strong coffee and dark beer, reading and collecting books, baking, and the great outdoors.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hello! My name is Mindy Mayfield and I’m an art student. While I was on your website, I noticed the beautiful black and white photo of you and your husband to the right of the page- I would be so honored if you would allow me to recreate it in pencil. I would be more than happy to show you the finished portrait- here is an example of my work: http://fieryinkheart.deviantart.com/

Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!

P.S. I love your website- you are such a wonderful and intelligent writer and I wish there were more people like you in the world<3

  2. Hi! You may not remember but about a hundred years ago I asked if I could draw your portrait? I wanted to give you the link to it in case you wanted to see it? I will of course take it down if you want me to-the link goes to Pinterest:)
Thanks so much again for permission! It was lovely to work on!:)

  3. I like your blog, Alyssa. Your writing is spot on and so delightfully deep. It’s good to see that you’re doing well. I would love to catch up sometime, if you ever want to :)
